Our Methodology

FreeIQCheck is a browser-based practice quiz—not a clinical assessment. This page explains how we select questions, score attempts, and present results so you know exactly what you are getting.

Design principles

  • Honest limits — We never claim clinical validity or population percentiles.
  • Teach after every item — Explanations appear on the results page so missed questions become lessons.
  • Progressive difficulty — Eight easy, nine medium, and eight hard items mirror a typical practice arc.
  • Privacy-first flow — No email gate; scoring happens locally in your session.

Question structure

Each attempt draws a balanced mix of randomized questions spanning nine reasoning categories. Answer choices are shuffled per question. Every item has one defensible correct answer and a short explanation on the results page.

Sequence

Number and letter patterns with predictable rules.

Pattern

Visual or symbolic alternation and completion.

Analogy

Word and concept relationships.

Logic

Syllogisms and conditional statements.

Numerical

Arithmetic, ratios, and quantitative puzzles.

Deduction

Elimination, ordering, and odd-one-out tasks.

Spatial

Symmetry, rotation, and spatial judgment.

Scoring model

Difficulty Items Weight
Easy 8 1.0×
Medium 9 1.5×
Hard 8 2.0×

Weighted accuracy maps to an illustrative IQ-style score and band label for motivation. The mapping is monotonic—better performance yields a higher number—but it is not calibrated to WAIS, Stanford–Binet, or any published norm table. Read our IQ score chart guide for how clinical scales differ.

What we do not measure

Processing speed under strict proctoring, working memory span, long-form vocabulary depth, and emotional intelligence are outside our scope. For how cognitive tests differ from EQ, see IQ vs EQ. For professional pipelines, read how IQ tests work.

Using results responsibly

Track category strengths, review explanations, and retake when curious—not when anxious. If you need documentation for school, clinical, or employment purposes, seek licensed evaluation. Our accuracy guide explains why browser quizzes cannot replace that process.

FAQ

Methodology — FAQ

Methodology FAQ

Is FreeIQCheck scientifically normed?
No. We use an illustrative scale inspired by common IQ charts. Scores are not percentiles against a national population sample.
Why weight harder questions more?
Weighted credit rewards solving difficult items without letting lucky guesses on easy items dominate the total. It better reflects reasoning depth in a short session.
Do you store my answers on a server?
Scoring runs in your browser. We do not require an account. See our Privacy Policy for analytics and cookie details.
Can I compare my score to Mensa or clinical tests?
No. Our quiz is not affiliated with Mensa or licensed clinical batteries. Use results for personal practice only.
